Lucky escape

From time to time we hear stories that remind us to be aware of best practices to ensure the safety of every worker around Australia.

Just last month a plumber had a lucky escape after a trench collapsed and buried him at Cannington.

As reported in The West Australian, the 44-year-old was lucky to escape serious injury when the 10m-deep trench fell in on top of him while he was doing a sewerage extension with his son and a co-worker on Woodloes Street.

Local police told the Newspaper the man was stuck in neck-deep sand for at least 15 minutes and faced potential suffocation.

Luckily his two co-workers reacted quickly and tried to dig him out.

The plumber was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

WorkSafe will be investigating the incident.
