The Reason For Australian Standards!

A lead contamination scare in Hong Kong has landed a plumber in hot water - so to speak.

Excessive lead levels have been found in tap water at Kowloon City's Kai Ching Estate, affecting thousands of residents.

The two year old estate has pre-cast hot water units imported from mainland China.

In a Hong Kong Government press release, the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, said it was likely that the level of lead in drinking water exceeding the World Health Organisation (WHO) standard was due to lead found in soldering materials of water pipes.

The plumber at the centre of the scandal has denied responsibility, something set to be resolved in the Hong Kong Courts.

While this is playing out in Hong Kong, it's another sobering reminder for plumbers in Australia to use quality products, preferably Australian made that adhere to the strict Australian Standard, and to always undertake quality workmanship.
