LEGIONELLA REPORTING TO CHANGE IN QUEENSLAND

New laws are expected to be introduced to Parliament this year on Legionella reporting, with fines of over $20,000 for those who don't comply.

Under the changes, care facilities will have to notify the Queensland Department of Health within 24 hours of Legionella being detected.

While testing of cooling towers already exists, testing for contamination and pathogens in hot water systems is not mandated in Queensland.

The Master Plumbers Association of Queensland (MPAQ) is calling on the State Government to increase requirements for regular and mandatory testing to ensure that hot water systems are tested every 12 months, inline with NSW,
