NSW Plumbing reforms from 1 July 2012
As of July 1st 2012, the NSW Deptartment of Fair Trading became the new plumbing and drainage regulator.
NSW is now using the Plumbing Code of Australia as the new technical standard.
The new reforms to the plumbing industry are part of a state wide initiative by the state Government to provide a more consistent and effective approach to standard setting, on site regulation and licensing.
As part of the plumbing regulatory framework, Fair Trading licenses plumbers and drainers under the Home Building Act 1989. All plumbing and drainage work must be carried out by a plumber who holds a licence, qualified supervisor certificate or tradesperson certificate.
Additionally, a system of on-site regulation makes sure that all plumbing and drainage work is monitore to comply with regulations technical standards.
